There will not be sewage treatment plant in Llano del Camello. The project, which had encountered strong neighborhood opposition due to its proximity to establishments and homes, will not finally be carried out, as this newspaper has learned. The Municipality of San Miguel de Abona will opt for a solution that will consist of transferring the wastewater from this nucleus, located next to the highway, to the purification plant of the Amarilla Golf urbanization, in the coastal area, which will be inaugurated in February, according to the municipal government group and which is currently in the “set-up” phase.
This solution will be maintained for around five years, until the large regional wastewater treatment plant begins to function, with capacity for a population of more than 200,000 inhabitants and which will be built in Montaña Reverón with the aim to put an end to discharges into the sea without proper treatment and to clean the waters coming from San Miguel, east of Arona and, in the future, from Vilaflor de Chasna to be used for agricultural irrigation.
The works for its construction, included in the agreement signed between the state company Acuaes and the Cabildo de Tenerife, were awarded for 22 million euros in May 2021 and five months ago a new impetus was given with the award of the collectors and impellers that will allow the operation of the plant.
Since the construction of a treatment plant in the industrial sector of Llano del Camello was announced in July 2021 to prevent the wells from filling up in the urbanization due to the delay of the Montaña Reverón station, the mayor of San Miguel de Abona , Arturo González, has held several meetings with representatives of the residents of this nucleus of more than a thousand homes and in which around 5,000 people reside.
