SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Canary Islands School Council celebrates its 35 years of dedication to inclusive and quality education. On the occasion of its anniversary, the Institution, the main body for the participation of the sectors most directly related to education in the Archipelago, brought together its four previous presidents, recognizing their contribution to the development of non-university education in the Canary Islands.
The institutional act took place this Friday and was attended by the Deputy Minister of Education, Universities and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, María Dolores Rodríguez, and the current president of the Canary Islands School Council, Natalia Álvarez, among other authorities and representatives of the sector Canary Islands education.
During the event, which took place in the Plaza Hermano Ramón de La Laguna, a tribute was paid to the four presidents who have passed through the Council up to the present day: Pedro Hernández (1987 – 2001), Orlando Suárez (2001 – 2010 ), María Dolores Barriel (2010 – 2016) and Ramón Aciego (2016 – 2020).
The Deputy Minister of Education, Universities and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, María Dolores Rodríguez, wanted to highlight that the active listening of the Canary Islands School Council and its values ”are a fundamental part of the results that are given in the education of the islands. Some results that are also achieved through different democratic actions that are born after a consensus and that I am sure will continue to reap the same success that they have achieved in these 35 years,” she added.
For her part, the president of the Canary Islands School Council, Natalia Álvarez, thanked both her predecessors and the people who, from different sectors, have been part of this body since its foundation for their involvement and commitment to education.
“The Canary Islands School Council was one of the first to be established in our country, and it is a reflection of the commitment to quality and equity in education aimed at achieving educational success. With an innovative and dynamic vision that has allowed us to assimilate and adapt education to the novelties and needs of each moment”, he affirmed.
“Through this recognition to the people who have chaired the Canary Islands School Council, we extend our gratitude to all those who have been part of its history and who allow us to face the improvement of education from solid foundations built from the participation the commitment of all the sectors involved in the future of education”, he added.
ABOUT THE SCHOOL COUNCIL OF THE CANARY ISLANDS
Founded in 1987, the Canarian School Council was one of the first regional school councils created in Spain. It is the main body for socio-educational participation and consultative advice on non-university education. As part of its work, the Council analyzes the state of Education in the Islands and makes proposals for improvement through reports, opinions and studies on its own initiative.
The Canary Islands School Council is made up of 55 directors and directors who represent 16 socio-educational sectors: teachers, students and their parents, administration and service personnel, private and concerted centers, Canarian universities, the pedagogical renewal sector, unions, employer organisations, Canarian Institute of Equality and representatives of the administrations.
