SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Tourist Development Center of Costa Adeje has hosted this Saturday the III Congress of Neighborhood Associations of the Canary Islands,
It is a meeting organized by the Ministry of Public Administrations, Justice and Security, through the General Directorate of Transparency and Citizen Participation, with the aim of addressing different interactive dynamics about associative realities, as well as debates and participatory experiences in socio-community, environmental, socio-sanitary or socio-economic matters, among others.
The event was inaugurated by the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín; the CEO of Citizen Participation and Diversity of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Nauzet Gugliota; the Councilor for Culture, Education and Citizen Participation of Adeje, María Clavijo; and the representative of Neighborhood Associations of the Canary Islands, Francisco Barreto. It has had the participation of more than 150 people belonging to different neighborhood associations of the Canary Islands.
As explained by the general director of Transparency and Citizen Participation, Marta Saavedra, this edition is carried out “with a broad and sustainable perspective, with a projection towards the future, analyzing and reflecting on the impact that our small actions have on the environment and how, as a community, we can all contribute to the development of our region”.
In this sense, Marta Saavedra has made a call to take advantage of the energy generated by associationism and citizen union for the social transformation of the Canary Islands and has asked for the firm commitment of all the participants to contribute to the sustainable development of the islands, both in terms of environmental as well as economic and social.
The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, has recognized the work that neighborhood groups do and have been doing for many years and the very large representation and participation they have on the island. He has emphasized the work carried out during the crisis caused by the pandemic, where the worth of his work has been demonstrated.
Pedro Martín has also offered the support of the Island Corporation, not to protect, monitor or indicate what they have to do or where they have to go, but to collaborate, improve their efficiency, through synergies and coordination between them . Likewise, he has promised to be receptive to his approaches.
In her capacity as hostess of this III Congress, the Councilor for Culture, Education and Citizen Participation of Adeje, María Clavijo, has expressed the importance of community neighborhood movements to transform the spaces where we live. She has indicated that this Congress is a three-way initiative, the result of collaborative work, for several months, between the three administrations involved and the associations.
“Today here – he said – associations of all kinds have met with common interests to improve society, I encourage you to take new ideas, new impulses to carry out other actions, you are one of the fundamental engines of progress of the society”.
Throughout the day, different workshops related to associative action in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the distribution of food and other social needs, as well as participatory experiences, have been developed. There has also been time for the debate on the citizen movement, on its present and future, and to expose experiences on diversity and physical activity as tools for social inclusion.
