SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –

A total of 43 works have been presented at the II Giro-Arte Regional Painting Contest, organized by the Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Plastic Arts workshop of the Insular Society for the Promotion of People with Disabilities (Sinpromi), with the objective of giving visibility and value to people with intellectual disabilities.

The third vice-president and island councilor for Social Action, Marián Franquet, highlighted “the great reception that this event has had, as well as the quality of the works presented, which value the artistic talent of people with intellectual disabilities and their right of access to art and culture”.

Marián Franquet highlighted the importance of “promoting this type of initiative to facilitate the social inclusion of people with disabilities and ensure that they have a more active role in society, making use of art, as the heritage of all people and a universal language , open to the expression and inclusion of diversity”.

Franquet chaired this week a meeting of the competition jury to analyze the works presented and choose the winners of this call, whose names will be announced at the awards ceremony that is scheduled to be held this November.

Along with her, they are part of the jury Alejandro Krawietz Rodríguez, insular director of Culture; Juan Albino Méndez Pérez, vice-rector for Culture, Social Participation and Campus Ofra and La Palma. University of La Laguna; Juan Carlos Martín Jerez, teacher of the Craft Workshop of the Verodes Occupational Center; Marlene Orán Pérez, monitor of the Giro-Arte Plastic Arts Workshop and Javier García Herrera, student of the Workshop, representing the vote of the Giro-Arte students. Likewise, Lourdes Pérez Hernández, head of the Sinpromi Plastic Arts Workshop, has acted as secretary of the Jury.

This year’s edition contemplates a first prize, which will receive artistic material valued at 300 euros, as well as two second prizes, to which a diploma of recognition is awarded. The jury also decided to award two honorable mentions.

Sinpromi promotes social and labor integration, as well as improving the quality of life of people with disabilities on the island of Tenerife. With this objective, in 1995, he began a creative experience aimed at people with intellectual disabilities, establishing the Giro-Arte Plastic Arts Workshop.

Through an individualized methodology, this workshop favors the comprehensive development of students, promoting their creative abilities and facilitating access to culture and art, as a means of expression and social inclusion. Among the actions, developed through the Workshop, is the call for this Contest, which shows the diversity of expression and artistic talent.
