“The PSOE is the party most interested in ASG presenting itself in Arona, because I understand that it will be easier to agree between socialists than between other parties,” he declared. Casimir Curbelopresident of the Cabildo de La Gomera and of the Gomera Socialist Groupin Onda Tenerife, when asked about the interference of his party in the socialist crisis in the Arona Town Hallafter having transmitted to Ángel Víctor Torres, weeks before, quite the opposite.

“Our presence is a safeguard, because it is also socialist, because it is faithfully in the Government of the Canary Islands, and it is the opposite, there is no interference. I have not asked the President of the Government, but I am sure that he would prefer to agree with us than with other political parties”.

Considering the irreconcilable division in the Aron Socialists, according to what happened in the Arona Government -now there are only seven of the 14 councilors under the socialist acronym-, Casimiro Curbelo points out that “if there is no understanding at this time, something that It has surprised me, it does not mean that it cannot be later. Life and politics evolve from one year to the next. We’ll see when it’s time.”

The top leader of ASG has already confirmed the agreement with the seven councilors who have been expelled or have withdrawn from the PSOE, creating a new political formation for the elections on May 28, called Más por Arona, with the intention of that Dácil León be his head of the electoral list, the same one that the Socialists proposed when they opened an expulsion file for Mena, as well as for Luis García, former Councilor for Urban Planning, who has not been able to demonstrate the alleged irregularities committed by the current mayor.

“I am not the best person to talk about this, but this week they will announce the name of the coalition with ASG to start walking together, and there we will see the list, which will be the one that decides the confluence of the two parties” he explained.

In addition, Curbelo recalled that “ASG has in its statutes that it is a national party and we can present ourselves both in La Gomera and in Tenerife, El Hierro or Badajoz. It must be remembered that in the south of Tenerife there are more Gomerans than on the island of La Gomera, since the time of the tomato harvest in the middle of the last century or with the tourist boom of the seventies and eighties. Therefore, it is not a bad thing that we are on the side of our countrymen in the municipality of Arona, which has lagged behind others such as Adeje”, he recounted to understand that four years ago it was presented under the acronym of Agrupación Socialista Tinerfeña at the elections to the Cabildo de Tenerife.

Regarding the possibilities that ASG will once again be decisive in the future composition of the Government of the Canary Islands after the elections on May 28, Curbelo is clear: “We are in talks to close the pact with David Cabrera’s party in El Hierro and with three or four deputies I have the intuition that we will be decisive again. We are going to tip the balance to form a government, and we will be there”.

He does not rule out the option of being the one who presides over the next Canarian Government: “Nobody is bitter about a sweet. I would love to be, although it is very difficult for that carom to happen”.
