This Thursday, November 10, at 12 noon, the Canary Islands will participate in a rehearsal of the alert system to the population through mobile phone networks ES-Alert, organized by the General Directorate of Civil Protection and Emergencies (DGPCE) and the Ministry of Public Administrations, Justice and Security, directed by Julio Pérez.
East warning system It will allow notification by text message to mobile phones in disasters or emergenciesas well as fires, floods, adverse meteorological phenomena or chemical accidents, without the need to install an application, since the system sends the notification to all telephones where the possible emergency area is located, functioning as a ‘1-1- 2 reverse’.
For this test, two scenarios have been selected for sending the alert, with a population of approximately 10,000 people, who will receive a message with a beep and vibration on the screen. Once read, the recipients will only have to press “accept” and should not answer or call the 1-1-2.
The message will be sent to the urban area of Garachico, in Tenerife, and Valleseco, in Gran Canaria, although the coverage of the telephone antennas can extend the dissemination of the notice to neighboring areas and other adjacent municipalities.
In this sense, in the case of Garachico, the alert could also be received in San Juan del Reparo, El Genovés, Las Cruces, San Pedro de Daute, Caleta de Interián and El Guincho, in addition to areas of the municipalities of Icod (La Vega , Las Cañas, Mirabal Alto and El Molledo), El Tanque (urban area and Tanque Bajo) and Los Silos (La Caleta, Casa Amarilla and Tierra del Trigo). In Valleseco, the message could reach Troyanas, Zamora, Lanzarote, El Lomo, Valsendero and Madrelagua, in addition to reaching the municipalities of Moya (El Tablero) and Teror (Arbejales, Las Toscas, Ojero, Lomontero, Los Corrales, Las Rosadas and San Isidro).
Both scenarios have been selected for their unique characteristics that allow testing the behavior of the warning system, as they are environments exposed to certain Civil Protection risks.
Prior to the exercise, the General Directorate of Security and Emergencies (DGSE) of the Government of the Canary Islands has communicated the test to the municipalities and island councils involved and the CECOES 1-1-2 has informed the security and emergency services to avoid generating alarm .
