SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 8 (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Minister of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, Blas Trujillo, said this Tuesday that the more than 300 elderly people with medical discharge who live in hospitals on the islands represent “a very old problem” whose solution must go through obtaining more socio-health resources.

In response to a question from the Popular Group in the control session, he commented that the “fundamental” issue lies in “really” establishing the socio-health needs while denying that these people are poorly attended to given that the health care person “is dedication” in their care.

He has said that the current “photo” is of some 320 or 350 people in that situation, something that harms health care because they are occupied beds that are not available for acute patients but that they try to “alleviate” every day, with 200 derivative people.

Miguel Ángel Ponce has described as “shameful” that there are people living in hospitals and although the SCS budget increases every year “this problem is increasing more and more and is aggravated in emergencies, with more corridors due to lack of beds.”

He has admitted that “chronicity has come a long way” but the pandemic no longer serves as an “excuse” for which he has proposed “changing the socio-sanitary approach” on the islands, as Extremadura and Murcia do, and that their management be integrated with the Health area to create a network of socio-health beds. “We are getting worse and we are starting winter,” he added.
