The remodeling of the Leoncio Rodríguez school begins

The City Council of El Rosario and the Ministry of Education of the Canary Islands Government recently started the reform work of the Leoncio Rodríguez Compulsory Education Center (CEO), the benchmark public school in the town of La Esperanza, which benefits from an investment close to 350,000 euros. The mayor of El Rosario, Escolástico Gil, and the Minister of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuela de Armas, visited on Wednesday the progress of some work that will improve the facility used by a school community made up of some 250 people between students, teachers and administrative staff.

The teaching center I had been waiting more than fifteen years for works of this magnitude. “With this long-awaited action, the commitments reached with the Vice President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Roman Rodriguezto complete some of the projects most demanded by the citizens of El Rosario”, indicates the mayor, Escolástico Gil, in a press release.

Gil details that the City Council of El Rosario undertook to carry out the drafting of the school’s comprehensive rehabilitation project and the Ministry of Education, which is the competent administration, to finance the work, for which he highlighted “the good predisposition and collaboration between administrations to improve public services”.

“Clear and obvious” need

The Regional Minister of Education, Manuela de Armas, explained that for the Government of the Canary Islands and the Ministry “it is very important to continue addressing the comprehensive improvements of those educational centers in the Canary Islands that need it in such a clear and evident way as this school in La Hope”. And she continued: «We do it because our main purpose is to match the quality of those already obsolete educational facilities to the dedication that teachers give to their students. For this, it is essential to have classrooms and common rooms with a level of comfort that allows the best possible education to be imparted».

During the visit to the school, the director of the school, Conrado Rivero; the councilors of Works and Education of the City Council of El Rosario, Juan Jesús del Rosario and Yeray Gutiérrez, respectively; the municipal architect, and technical staff of the Consistory.

The Leoncio Rodriguez school, built in the mid-1970s, it presents “a series of pathologies derived from the aging of the buildings that comprise it, the low quality of the original materials and the poor adaptation to the usual climate of the territory (particular climate of the area, inclement weather, rain, humidity, cold…) », specifies the press release sent yesterday by the Rosario City Council .

The works will consist of reforming the retaining wall that separates the educational facility from the field of football Maximino Bacallado, who suffered from important pathologies that could lead to his collapse, and will be completely replaced. In addition, sanitation will be carried out, the acoustic insulation of the dining room, the reform of the library to avoid cold and humidity, the installation of two external elevators for the Infant and Primary and Secondary modules, the covering of the corridor of access from Víctor Zurita street, the roofing and re-waterproofing of the roofs, the replacement of the interior carpentry and the surface conditioning of the second sports field (the first was already reformed by the City Council in a previous action), with the ultimate goal of its use for sports such as futsal, basketballmini basketball and volleyball.

One of the aspects that also stood out from the Consistory is that the works carried out inside the facilities are carried out from 2:30 p.m. so as not to interfere with school hours. In addition, the institution pointed out that the execution period is five months.
