The Candelaria City Council has reopened all its beaches this Thursday after not detecting the presence of hydrocarbons in the water or on the shore and after receiving the results of the water analysis from the Canary Islands Government Laboratory and Sanitary Inspection Service, which establish that they are suitable for bathers.

The City Council recalled in a statement that on September 7 the precautionary closure of the beaches was decreed after detecting the presence of hydrocarbons both in the water and on the shore.
In this way, during this afternoon the Candelaria City Council will progressively reopen the beaches and residents will be able to use them.
The mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito, appreciates the “exemplary behavior” of the citizens after respecting the prevention measures established since last week.
The origin of this spill remains unknown, although the Maritime Captaincy specified that, after analyzing the island’s coastal waters, no stain was detected, so it pointed to the possibility of a spill produced on land, and not in the sea.
