The Council of Tenerifethrough the Technological and Renewable Energy Institute (ITER), has taken up the project for the construction of a 66/20 kV electrical substation in Granadilla de Abonawhich will allow a connection of up to 50 megawatts (MW) of power from renewable sources.
The island president Peter Martinexplains in a note that the substation will allow a connection of up to 50 megawatts of power from renewable sourcesof which 11 MW correspond to existing photovoltaic plants in ITER and 10 MW to the future Granadilla de Abona Central wind farm, promoted by the company Enel Green Power.
In this way, 29 megawatts of power will be free that can be used for other projects.
“The construction of this infrastructure contributes to the goal of progressively implementing a renewable energy system that makes the island more environmentally and economically sustainable. It is just as important to have the necessary equipment to generate energy as it is to have the systems to be able to pour it into the network and that can reduce dependence on fossil fuels”, indicates the insular president.
The ITER 66/20 kV substation is partially built, with most of the civil works for the building completed and part of the equipment purchased.
This link installation to evacuate renewable energy planning started in 2007 but stalled after leased hotspot changed and move to the Abona 220/66 kV substation, which had not yet begun construction by Red Eléctrica de España (REE).
The Abona 220/66kV substation is already operational, so ITER has taken up the 66/20 kV substation project through the Wind Energy department, in collaboration with the Sustainable Architecture and Photovoltaic departments, and it is expected to come into service in 2023.
Pedro Martin adds that “At the moment we are working on updating pricesin the incorporation of new items that allow compliance with the connection procedures of Red Eléctrica de España and in the inclusion of the regulations that have entered into force after the date of administrative authorization of the project”.
Similarly, a shared investment has been made between ITER and Enel Green Power Spain for the start of connection procedures for the Central de Granadilla wind farm at the Abona Substation.
