A train-tram between San Isidro, the most populated nucleus of Granadilla de Abona, and Adeje to improve mobility on the Island. This is the proposal of Canarian Coalitionwhich requests that the procedures for the start-up of this transport with vehicles capable of executing several routes be streamlined, since they can work on railway and tram tracks.

The nationalist spokesman, Carlos Alonso, criticizes the “paralysis” of guided transport in Tenerife “since the arrival of the PSOE” and asks “to provide MetroTenerife with sufficient resources to carry out the projects that the Island needs in terms of railways.” Alonso points out that the Bahía de Cádiz tram-train, known as Trambahía de Cádiz, is “a good example of what can be done here.” «MetroTenerife has launched this project thanks to an initiative that we started in the previous mandate (2016) but the PSOE is unable to promote this solution in Tenerife. The train-tram between San Isidro and Adeje could be very advanced, but since the arrival of the PSOE to the Cabildo all projects have been paralyzed, “adds the nationalist.

“There is no leadership on the part of Pedro Martín, he does not defend the interests of Tenerife but those of his party,” Alonso stressed. “He has been a hostage of Si Podemos Canarias and that has made the Island fall behind in these three and a half years.” In this sense, he remembers that «The Government of Spain reduced funding by 80% for guided transport projects in Tenerife in 2022 and of the 5 million euros that there were, they left it at one million euros ». “Right now there is no leadership in the Cabildo, there is no ambition or interest in solving Tenerife’s mobility problems. We hope that this will change from May of next year, he clarifies.

Metrotenerife, a company of the Cabildo de Tenerife, has been one of the companies that has been involved in the entry into service of the Bahía de Cádiz Train-Tram and after offering technical assistance since 2016 for the next six months it will be in charge of monitoring and supervising the the commercial operation of this new rail service managed by the Junta de Andalucía and operated by Renfe. The Trambahía connects from this week the municipalities of Chiclana de la FronteraSan Fernando, Puerto Real and Cádiz through 24 kilometres, 21 stops and a fleet of seven trams and it is estimated that the population served is around 233,500 people.

Carlos Alonso points out that the studies of the train-tram between San Isidro and Adeje began in 2018 and would represent a great advance, since it would allow decongesting the collapse suffered by the TF-1 motorway as it passes through Las Chafiras, Guaza, Los Cristianos and Adeje. “The Cabildo has to promote these infrastructures because guided transport makes the offer more flexible and, in the case of the train-tram, alleviates daily traffic in one of the economic engines of the Island,” concludes Carlos Alonso.
