Yesterday, the Arona Local Police celebrated the festivity of its patron saint, San Quintín, on a day in which gratitude was highlighted for the work carried out by the 140 agents that make up the staff and for the future of the body, which goes through the construction project for a new Citizen Security building in Cho-Parque la Reina, which will lead to faster police actions.

The day began at 12 in the Plaza del Cristo de la Salud, with the agents in training, who were reviewed by the mayor, José Julián Mena, accompanied by the councilor for the Security area, Francisco Marichal, and the chief deputy commissioner of the Local Police. The event was attended by representatives of the aronero government group and the Security councilors of La Laguna, Granadilla and Vilaflor de Chasna, as well as commanders of the Civil Guard, National Police, Canarian Police and the local police of La Laguna, Adeje, Granadilla and Vilaflor of Chasna.

Next, a religious ceremony was held, organized by the agents themselves in the Church of San Antonio Abad, and at its conclusion the traditional tribute to active agents with more than 20 years of service took place in the Casino, in which there was no lack of a special memory to the deceased policemen. A total of twenty badges were awarded, including the Distinctive Plaque of Permanence in Service for 35 years.

The mayor of Arona stated that the agents form “a Police at the service of the people, modern, reliable, close and that provides security to our neighbors. We have put tools and instruments in recent years to make this happen, in addition to the increase in troops, the largest for more than a decade.”

Mena expressed that it is “absolutely necessary” to carry out the new Security building planned in Cho-Parque La Reina. “It will be a benchmark, not only in Arona, but in Tenerife as a whole and, especially, in the southern region,” he said.

For his part, the Councilor for the Security area congratulated the agents and thanked them for their work. After recalling the “complexity” of the municipality, made up of 39 nuclei, to which is added more than a million and a half tourists a year, Francisco Marichal indicated that “we will continue working to provide the Local Police of Arona with human and material resources , because we are not going to stay with what we have already done”.
