The rector of the University of La Laguna and professor of Systems Engineering and Automation, Rosa María Aguilar Chinea, participated in the cycle of seminars Researchers for the ecological transition and innovation, organized by the Cepsa Foundation Chair for Ecological Transition and Innovation at the University of La Laguna. the presentation Automatic learning in the identification of systems: a case study in the prediction of the electrical generation of a wind farm falls within his area of ​​research.

Aguilar has been the first representative of the University of La Laguna to participate in these monthly meetings that will also include other regional, national and international researchers. The speaker wanted to highlight the importance of this cycle of seminars, both for science and for women who are in this field. “The reality is that women are not accessing the world of science,” she said Aguilar.

He added that the problems that society presents are solved in those contexts in which both men and women are working in equal conditions. And along these lines, she highlighted the work carried out by the Cepsa Foundation Chair at the University of La Laguna, through this cycle of seminars that, she remarked, “serve to see examples of women who have dedicated themselves to helping change the world ”. A task that she described as “fundamental” to give visibility to the role of women in the scientific field.

Electricity Market Predictions

During her speech, the rector addressed the electricity market and stressed the necessary predictions to maintain the right balance between energy production and consumption, since “electricity cannot be stored, so it is important that it is not even lost nor is a situation of scarcity generated”.

He emphasized the current globalized world where there is a great availability of data and where its correct use is essential. He referred to the techniques that exist in this area, especially those applied to generation in wind farms.

Finally, he clarified that these techniques to correctly use the data and thus obtain concrete, accurate and valuable results, are not only applicable to the fields of science and computing, but also to other areas such as arts, humanities, health sciences. and social sciences. “Although this paper is applied to a wind farm, these techniques are applicable to all areas of study,” he concluded.
