The traditional annual Meeting of the Elderly of La Laguna, which brings together representatives of the 36 associations of the towns and neighborhoods of the municipality, traveled yesterday to the northeast region to continue generating community and neighborhood links between the groups, in a day of leisure and exchange of experiences and projects in the Plaza de Valle de Guerra that marked the beginning of the new local policies after the terrible impact of the pandemic among the elderly population, as highlighted by the City Council.

The municipality thus starts a multi-year plan with more than a hundred actions in infrastructures, open-air spaces, transport, housing, participation, inclusion, employment, information and community and health support services, agreed upon by the Municipal Council for the Elderly and which is aimed at improving the quality of life of the approximately 40,200 people over 60 years of age who reside in the municipality, as well as promoting healthy aging to prepare for the future challenge of demographic ageing.

The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez; the first deputy mayor and councilor for Social Welfare and Quality of Life, Rubens Ascanio, and the CEO of Citizen Participation and Diversity of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Nauzet Gugliotta, accompanied by councilors from the Consistory, welcomed almost a thousand people attending this meeting, which was held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and which included performances by Los Vándalos, En Otra Clave (Servando and Panchita), the Valle de Guerra Music Band and the representation of the Livery of this town lagoon In addition to the presentation to the public of the second issue of Mayores Magazine and the screening of the documentary El Legado, a project for the conservation of local living memory based on the testimonies of 52 elderly people.
