The Autonomous Organization of Festivities and Recreational Activities (Oafar) of Santa Cruz limits, for the first time, the weight of the fantasies that the candidates for Carnival Queen of the capital will wear. Behind the incident starred last year by one of the candidates, whose suit, weighing a ton, sank the stage, in the bases to participate in the 2023 Queen’s Election Gala the load has been limited to 700 kilos.
These standards, which have been agreed upon with the designers, will be approved at the next Governing Council of the Oafar. In addition to the weight limit, it is added that each suit has at least four wheels installed, so that the maximum load supported (in kilos) will be at least 350 kilos for each wheel. It is also recommended, for safety reasons, that the front of the suit has a free opening of 35 centimeters, without any type of obstacle, to facilitate the entry/exit of the candidate.
The other great novelty of the bases is the advancement of the registration of candidates. This was detailed by councilor of Parties, Alfonso Hair. “We have agreed that the deadline to define the registration is November 21. We need to know the number of candidates well in advance, because the measurements of the scenario depend a lot on the number of candidates. If we have a small number, the dimensions of the stage, and, above all, the space behind for fantasies, will be less than if we have many candidates”, the mayor explained yesterday. The creators will have until January 9, 2023 to ratify their participation in the contest by submitting all the requested documentation.
As for the jury’s vote, this will be made up of the scores of the jury and the public vote, through a popular vote system to be determined by the organization. Unlike other years, all the candidates will be evaluated by the jury and by popular vote, so that the vote of the experts will have a weight of 85% compared to 15% of the public vote. The total score will be the sum of both votes and the finalists will be announced after knowing the organization the total score of each candidate.
Grant
In the plenary session held yesterday, the modification of the Subsidy Plan was approved to include a subsidy of 28,000 euros aimed at designers, specifically, to cover the losses they assumed due to the delay of the 2022 Carnival from February to June. “We have requested that they send us the total figures for these losses, to calculate the amount of the modification, but now they will have to justify the figures that have been advanced to us with documents,” explained Cabello.
Fair
The Carnival does not want to wait and already, from tomorrow until November 9, the City Council of Santa Cruz will be present at the VI Tricontinental Craft Fair organized by the Cabildo de Tenerife, with a 352-square-meter stand that will host a varied Program.
