Priority attention will be given to families with dependent children, homeless people with difficulties in accessing institutional resources, immigrants, the elderly who have problems of social isolation and loneliness, as well as all those groups that have been especially affected by the crisis generated by the pandemic of coronavirus covid-19. Franquet highlighted the “flexibility” that has been had when establishing the implementation deadlines for these emergency aid, which have been set between May 2021 and May 2023, “so that not a euro is left to invest in care for people who need it. 20% of the economic item will be distributed in a linear way among all municipalities, 30% will be distributed taking into account the resident population – with data from the municipal register – and the remaining 50% will be arranged according to the number of unemployed people who have each municipality.
The CEO of Citizen Participation and Diversity, Nauzet Gugliotta, highlights that of the 6.8 million, 3 million will be allocated to social benefits through prepaid cards, whether they are new or recharges of those already existing in the municipalities; and 3.6 million will go to finance aid for social emergencies and personnel expenses that work specifically in the management, attention and assessment of situations of social vulnerability may also be paid.
These grants must be used to defray expenses for food, hygiene, self-protection material, clothing and footwear, pharmacy, household utensils or basic furniture for home. 200,000 euros will be allocated to situations of isolation and loneliness of the elderly. In this case, the greatest weight of the item is given to the demographic criterion, with 50% to be distributed according to the population between 65 and 79 years old and that of 80 years and over that each municipality has.
Support for emigrants in Venezuela
The Cabildo de Tenerife has launched a line of subsidies of a total of 127,512 euros so that Tenerife emigrants in Venezuela, mostly of advanced age, receive medical attention and support in basic food needs. The Minister of Foreign Action, Liskel Álvarez, assures that «through the Fundación España Salud we will be able to offer primary, outpatient and specialized care, and even surgery to emigrants from Tenerife in Venezuela. A prepayment system will be set up through which these families will be able to make purchases in food establishments, given that they are people who do not receive enough income to cover their basic needs.
