SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 27 Oct. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, highlighted this Thursday that the latest data from the Active Population Survey (EPA) show the “strength” of the economy of the Archipelago and is convinced that the data for next quarter will be even better.

According to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), unemployment in the Canary Islands has decreased by 800 people between July and September of this year, which implies 0.39 percent less in relation to the previous quarter. In this way, the unemployed in the Archipelago stand at 204,200.

In statements to the media, the president highlighted that the Canary Islands is the autonomous community that has generated the most employment in all of Spain, which reflects the strength of the economy of the islands and how it has been able to recover despite having been the most affected by the health and economic crisis.

Ángel Víctor Torres emphasized that the unemployment rate in the Islands is already below 18%, when it has reached more than 30%, and all this despite the fact that it has been a “complex” quarter due to summer is not high season since in the educational sector many people stop.

Likewise, he has said that he aspires to have “good data” in the fourth quarter and has stressed that this is the way forward to continue generating employment and that there are more employed people with economic resources. “This is the best way to try to fight against the wage gap and poverty in the Canary Islands,” she remarked.
