La Laguna hopes to open Casa Anchieta before the end of the year

The Municipality of La Laguna has organized twenty activities to celebrate the 23rd anniversary of its declaration as a World Heritage City, and with which it wants to spread its values ​​and promote its protection. The program was presented yesterday by the mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, and the Councilor for Historical Heritage, Elvira Jorge, who added that, in addition, “we continue to work to give our citizens and visitors access to buildings of heritage interest.”

When consulted in this regard, the mayor specified that “we hope that the Anchieta House before the end of the year, we are awaiting an opinion from the insular Historical Heritage commission and I know that work has been going on to carry out what that opinion proposed”.

Elvira Jorge announced that it is also hoped that the hermitage of San Miguel Arcángel will reopen its doors before the end of the year, and regarding the old prison, “work is being done and we also hope that before the end of the year or in January, can make available to the public,” he added.

Regarding the programming to celebrate the 23rd anniversary of the UNESCO title, the mayor appreciated that La Laguna is “the only city in the Canary Islands that has this distinction.” “We laguneros and laguneras have a jewel in our hands,” he stressed.

For her part, Elvira Jorge emphasized that the activities “pursue awareness for the conservation, protection and transmission of this legacy.” Free actions, for all ages, inclusive, that cover all types of heritage and that have been organized from the collaboration, such as routes and guided tours, publications, conferences, informative days, exhibitions, courses and workshops that will start on the 1st of November and will last until mid-December.

Specifically, the mayor highlighted some such as the return of the theatrical routes, by Burka Theater, guided tours of the town, bicycle routes through the surroundings and the history of the old lake, archaeological routes or the III Conference on approaching the threats to cultural heritage.

In addition to the presentation of new publications such as Guide to inscriptions, coats of arms and busts of the historic center of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, by Miguel Ángel Gómez, the catalog Archaeological intervention in the Plaza de los Remedios, by the company Prored, or 1496 From Aguere to San Cristóbal de La Laguna, by Antonio Tejera Gaspar.
