‘Empleoland’ opens its doors in Tenerife with 50 exhibitors and more than 1,000 registered people

The second Fair of Employment and Entrepreneurship of Tenerife, ‘Empleoland’, organized by the Council of Tenerifein collaboration with the Social Council of the University of La Laguna, (ULL) has opened its doors this Wednesday with a total of 50 stands and more than 1,000 people registered.

The objective of this event, which will be held on October 26 and 27 at the Tenerife Fairgrounds, is to publicize the needs of the labor market and bring work and entrepreneurship opportunities to job seekers on the island.

The fair was attended by the president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín; the island counselor for Employment and Socioeconomic Development, Carmen Luz Baso and the president of the Social Council of the ULL, Dolores Pelayo.

Peter Martin He highlighted that this year the number of registered people has tripled: “We have gone from 300 people registered in 2021 to more than 1,000 this year, which shows that there is a desire to seek employment alternatives.”

The insular president also stressed that “employment has always been one of the great priorities of this insular government” and recalled that throughout the mandate agreements have been reached with the 31 municipalities to promote employment programs “that guarantee a distribution equitable and territorial throughout the island with an investment effort like never before, which exceeds 26 million euros”.

In this sense, he assured that “fruit of all this work” now have the best employment data of the last 14 years, “but it is not enough”, because in Tenerife they continue with 17 percent unemployment, a percentage that increases in the case of young people or people over 45 years of age. “We cannot be satisfied,” he stressed.

For her part, the island councilor for Employment and Socioeconomic Development, Carmen Luz Baso, emphasized that in this edition of ‘Empleoland’ the number of participating stands has also doubled, going from 25 to 50, as well as the presence of large companies, such as FAST, IKEA, Hospital Parque, Compañía Cervecera de Canarias or EAVE.

The island official also highlighted the wide range of agents and socioeconomic entities linked to education, professional training and access to employment that will participate in the fair.

“Companies, unions, organizations, entities and professional training centers will be present to facilitate access to information for those attending. In addition, for the first time it will be allowed to submit resumes and job interviews will be held,” he added.

Dolores Pelayo highlighted the importance of joining efforts to generate employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.

EMPLOYMENT AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

“I am convinced that this alliance between the Cabildo, the University of La Laguna and the Social Council is the right way to promote training and support for all the young people who are here today, wanting to live and progress,” she said.

In this second editionn ‘Empleoland’ the training offer has also been expanded to include, in addition to the university studies already present in 2021, other training alternatives related to vocational training and languages.

In the same way, different spaces have been set up for talks, round tables and conferences with the aim of equipping attendees with new skills and tools that make it easier for them to find and keep a job.

New professions, innovation within traditional professions and how to implement it on a day-to-day basis are some of the main issues that make up the interactive program of activities.

The Social Council of the ULL has also organized a program of presentations and debates on employability and employment policies.

Of Free accessthe ‘II Fair of Employmentland’, will keep its doors open today and tomorrow from 9:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
