The tenth year of the University’s Tourism degree begins

“The coordinated work between the Adeje City Council and the University of La Laguna It has served to improve the development of the region. This was confirmed yesterday by Rosa Aguilar, rector of the University of La Laguna (ULL), in the opening ceremony of a new course of the degree in Tourism taught at the South Campus of the ULL, the tenth consecutive.

Aguilar stressed that the mayor of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, “was able to see the opportunity of having the University of La Laguna, first with the courses of the Summer University and, later, with the opening of this permanent headquarters of the tourism degree.

The opening ceremony of the course was attended by the Councilor for Culture and Education, María Clavijo Maza, and the Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism, José Adrián García Rojas. The opening speech was given by Ramón Casillas Ruiz, Professor of Petrology and Geochemistry at the ULL, who presented some keys to understanding the recent volcanic eruption of Tajogaite on the island of La Palma.

The principal indicated that Both the crisis caused by the pandemic and that of the war “warn us that the world is changing and subject to a lot of stress.” “Therefore, it is vital to support all sectors so that the progress of society is a fact. We need students who think big and act locally, youth with knowledge, talent and values”, explained the rector.

Finally, Rosa Aguilar indicated that it is “necessary to commit to more sustainable tourism.” «The University of La Laguna is offering innovative proposals, aligning our action with the environmental commitment, but none of this would be possible without the firm ally that Adeje has been».

María Clavijo Maza, councilor for the Education and Culture area, pointed out in her speech that “This opening of the course represents a new opportunity for knowledge, training and knowledge”. «The Adeje campus welcomes a large student body who, without a doubt, have taken advantage of its proximity to be able to carry out their higher studies». Therefore, the councilor continued, “it is important to highlight that Adeje will always continue to be committed to being a point of union between the University and society,” she concluded.
