SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 25 Oct. (EUROPE PRESS) –
A total of 58 farmers on the islands can now benefit from the more than two million euros in subsidies granted by the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, which will allow greater economic support in the renovation and adaptation of their farms.
The total amount of the subsidies, co-financed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, through the EAFRD funds, amounts to 2,243,357.95 euros, which are distributed in an annuity for 2022 of 224,335.77 euros and for the next year of 2,019,022.18 euros.
With these subsidies, the regional Executive tries to promote the continuity of an essential sector for the productive fabric of the islands and that is currently going through one of its worst moments.
The aid will greatly contribute to improving the economic results of the farms, facilitating their restructuring and modernization, while taking steps towards a model designed to face the new challenges related to the environment, climate change and animal welfare.
In this sense, the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Alicia Vanoostende, underlined the need for these subsidies “to give oxygen to a sector that is going through a very tough stage, due to the energy crisis, which has repercussions on the increase in raw material costs.
“It is our commitment to promote, together with the primary sector, the necessary measures to meet the new requirements imposed by the EU to advance in the improvement of new technologies and innovation, with ecological and quality products,” he added.
