The Council of Tenerife Begin to get beekeepers the 92,000 euros intended for feeding the bees. The subsidy benefits 555 farms, which translates into 15,588 hives. This amount represents 9% more than in 2021. The second Beekeeping Table held this year advances the island strategy in defense of the sector.
The main objective of this aid is to defray the expenses for the acquisition of specific complementary foods, rich in sugars, proteins and micronutrients –vitamins and minerals– that allow them to improve their nutritional status and contribute to preserving the beekeeping herd of Tenerife.
The island councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Javier Parrilla, indicates: “We continue to work with the sector, in the debate and analysis of the different aspects of this comprehensive plan.” The objective is to generate a “solid, consensual and lasting” document that allows the defense and promotion of this “fundamental” productive sector to continue.
Grill explains that, After the meeting with the Beekeeping Board at the end of September, «the second work meeting addressed the adaptation of the National Strategy for the Conservation of Pollinators to the context of the Island and its inclusion in the draft of the new insular document». The counselor assures: «We solve and clarify doubts with the aim of generating a solid plan, which responds to the needs».
Javier Parrilla anticipates that a new table will be held on November 8 to agree on the structural measures required by the sector “and bring the strategy to the plenary session for final approval as soon as possible.”
The island strategy for the development of beekeeping is made up of eleven major objectives, with which it is intended to guarantee the future and promote the professionalization and sustainability of this traditional activity.
