The accumulated income in tourist accommodation establishments in the Canary Islands in the first nine months of the year has grown by 3%, compared to the same pre-pandemic period, reaching 2,945 million, according to data from the Ashotel Tourism Competitiveness and Sustainability Observatory obtained through the Tourist Accommodation Survey of the Canary Institute of Statistics (Istac).
In four islands, the total accumulated income is higher than that registered during the same period of 2019, with El Hierro being the one that presents the best data (2.6 million, +27.8%).
Lanzarote (534.5 million, +8.9%), Fuerteventura (438.1 million, +7.7%) and Tenerife (1,085.6 million, +3.8%) also show positive figures and continue, on the other hand, , with indicators lower than those of 2019 Gran Canaria (839.1 million, -1.9%), La Gomera (21.8 million, -13.3%) and La Palma (23.3 million, -26.4 %).
This is the indicator that shows the best behavior in relation to the other two indicators: travelers staying and overnight stays, which indicates that the average expenditure made in accommodation establishments has increased.
In this way, with 788,000 tourists staying less in this period compared to 2019 (-8%), income in accommodation establishments exceeds that year by 88 million (3%), collects a note from Ashotel.
Regarding overnight stays, all the islands are at lower figures than in 2019, with 63.5 million in the first nine months of the year and 13.6% are still far from the pre-pandemic period. The greatest decrease occurred in La Palma (-48%), followed by La Gomera (-29%) and Gran Canaria (-21.8%).
With falls of between 10% and 20% are El Hierro (-18%) and Tenerife (-10%) while the islands of Lanzarote (-9.8%) and Fuerteventura (-5.6%) show the smallest declines.
In the case of staying travelers, the trend is very similar to overnight stays, with Fuerteventura being the only one to increase its figures compared to 2019 with an increase of 1.8%.
The islands of Tenerife (-4%), El Hierro (-5.9%) and Lanzarote (-7.8%) experienced decreases below 10%, while La Palma (-32.6%), La Gomera (-30.7%) and Gran Canaria (-14.6%) registered worse figures.
SEPTEMBER DATA
As for the occupations per vacancy last September, the average throughout the Canary Islands was 69.44%.
The island with the best average occupancy was Lanzarote (77.51%), followed by Fuerteventura (71.65%), Tenerife (68.88%), Gran Canaria (65.12%), La Palma (54.08%) , La Gomera (52.13%) and El Hierro (39.83%).
The greatest decrease occurs in El Hierro, with a drop of 10 points compared to 2019.
Although many of the indicators still do not exceed the figures for 2019, they have done so compared to the same period in 2021.
Overnight stays have increased by 200%, with 42.36 million more overnight stays during the first nine months of the year.
Stayed travelers also show a significant increase compared to 2021, 159.6% and 5.74 million guests and considerably improve the total accumulated income, 224%, which represents 2,035.86 million euros more.
