The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, highlighted this Thursday the importance of the automotive subsector for the economy of the Canary Islands at the opening of the Tenerife Motor Show, which brings together 40 brands and 70 commercial exhibitors in a space of 16,000 square meters .
Martín highlighted “the constant commitment” made by this subsector “for innovation and the search for alternatives based on greater respect for the environment and a reduction in waste and consumption”.
Along with Martín, the general director of Commerce and Consumption of the Government of the Canary Islands, David Mille, participated in the inauguration; the president of the Canarian Regional Federation of Automobile Importers and Dealers (Fredica), Jesús Orozco; and the director of Corporate Strategy and Diversification of the DISA Group, Florencio de la Rosa.
On behalf of the Cabildo, the vice president of the island corporation, Enrique Arriaga, the Minister of Employment, Socioeconomic Development and Foreign Action, Carmen Luz Baso, the island director of Socioeconomic Development, Ermitas Moreira, and the island director of Roads, Tomás Félix also attended. The island president assured that “holding this fair, at a time of uncertainty for the sector that has been affected both by the pandemic and by the shortage of materials for manufacturing, is a sign of its resistance in the Canary Islands”, time that he trusted that its development “will serve as an incentive to continue advancing in a necessary renovation of the island’s mobile fleet”.
“Many brands present their new vehicles for the first time today, which have respect for the environment in common, not only because there are more and more alternative vehicles, but also because they have tried to reduce resources throughout the manufacturing process,” added Martín. , which stressed the need to combine public transport with the use of less polluting private transport.

For his part, the General Director of Commerce and Consumption, David Mille, emphasized the need for “all administrations” to unite “in defense of the automotive sector, whose main threat is uncertainty and to value the auxiliary industry surrounding the automobile”.
The fair, organized by the Cabildo de Tenerife, is financed by the Department of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands with a contribution of 80,000 euros, and is sponsored by Disa.
The president of Fredica, Jesús Orozco, thanked the Cabildo for its support to the sector, making the organization of this Exhibition possible, “whose start-up is an indicator that little by little it is returning to normality”, and expressed confidence in which its development contributes to boosting sales.
For his part, the director of Corporate Strategy and Diversification of the DISA Group referred to the importance of renewing the fleet as the only alternative to deepen savings and improve energy efficiency in the automotive sector.
“Encouraging the renewal of the mobile fleet, not only for electric vehicles but for any technology that already exists on our roads, is betting on a faster decarbonization,” said Florencio de la Rosa.
With opening hours from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., admission costs three euros, except for those over 65 and under 10, who can enter for free.
