SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 20 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, assures that before the end of the year the works of the new pier that is being built in Masca will be completed to facilitate the entry and exit by sea to one of the most visited paths on the island and once the new management model has been implemented.

Pedro Martín visited the new facilities this Wednesday, together with the mayor of Buenavista del Norte, Antonio González, the mayor of Santiago del Teide, Emilio Navarro, the island councilor for Natural Environment Management, Isabel García, and representatives of the company awarded the construction site.

The president recalled that currently, and since last March, the Masca ravine can only be traversed on foot, having to return to the starting point once the path has been completed, and that with the completion of this work, “the expands a new possibility that consists of being able to leave by sea once finished”.

In his opinion, “this is a long-standing demand from the City Council of Buenavista del Norte and Santiago del Teide, this space must be taken care of and that is why we have been very exquisite in the treatment of the waste that the work has generated and in how to intervene in this environment, and it will be completed before the end of the year”.

The possibility of leaving the Masca ravine by sea had to be canceled because the old pier did not have all the security measures, according to a note from tourism.

The president added that “the work, which began last September, entails an insular budget of 1.6 million euros and has included the preparation of the seabed and the placement of 46 prefabricated blocks that will serve as a dike to protect the new pier, in addition to the installation of an aluminum walkway that will connect the pier with land”.

The Minister of Natural Environment Management, Isabel García, pointed out that the construction of this jetty is a project to which the Cabildo has committed “because it is a long-awaited work by the citizens of Tenerife and although it has cost a lot to carry it out, it is respectful of the environment and solid and durable over time and serves to complete the visit to the ravine in a pleasant way by being able to leave by sea”.

The mayor of Buenavista del Norte, Antonio González, was satisfied with the development of the work and assured that “the start-up of this service will result in the reactivation of the northern part of the island, since a large number of of tourists”.

For his part, Emilio Navarro, mayor of Santiago del Teide, also recalled that “the important rehabilitation project and implementation of the new model for visiting the Barranco de Masca is an important tourist incentive for the municipalities adjoining the Parque Rural de Teno “.

RESERVATIONS THROUGH THE WEB

These works are part of the new services and improvements that the Cabildo has promoted in the area, including the investment of more than one million euros, with the participation of other public administrations, in the conditioning of the path of the ravine of Masca, and the signage and creation of a control and security service to limit the number of accesses and guarantee the safety and conservation of this natural area.

Currently, both the visitor center and access to the Masca ravine are open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, while on weekends and holidays the hours are extended by two hours, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

In order to access the path of the ravine, a reservation must be made through the website www.caminobarrancodemasca.com.

At the moment they are only offered on weekends and holidays and in the descent and ascent mode.
