SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 19 (EUROPE PRESS) –
The El Hierro National Parador hosted today, Wednesday, a new edition of the Official Agrocanarias Sea Salt Contest 2022, organized by the Canarian Institute of Agrifood Quality (ICCA), attached to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands, in collaboration with the Cabildo of El Hierro.
The presentation of the final phase of the contest was attended by the director of the Canarian Institute of Agrifood Quality (ICCA), Basilio Pérez, and the councilor for Rural and Marine Environment and Water Resources of the Cabildo of El Hierro, David Cabrera.
Basilio Pérez thanked the Cabildo Herreño for its involvement in the development of the contest, as well as the participation of the companies that choose to win the award for the best sea salt in the Canary Islands. In this regard, he highlighted the importance of giving continuity to the holding of this contest, “with the aim of promoting the dissemination of this essential product and strengthening its recognition and distinction.”
“In the Government of the Canary Islands we work to launch this type of initiative that seeks to promote, promote and preserve the work of the producers of sea salt in the Islands and that they obtain the recognition they deserve for their contribution to the maintenance of an activity, which has been essential in the history of the Canary Islands,” he explained.
For his part, the councilor from El Hierro showed his predisposition and that of the island institution he presides over to develop this type of meeting “which provides greater knowledge and dissemination of the benefits that our island offers to develop agricultural, livestock and fishing activities.” “El Hierro offers many possibilities to encourage entrepreneurship in a unique environment, an example of sustainable development,” he specified.
Finally, José Basilio Pérez thanked the contest for the support it has received, “which is undoubtedly a good example of its maintenance over the years”. “Thanks to everyone who makes it possible for us to be here presenting, one more year, this contest to value our sea salts and all the culinary possibilities they present”, he highlighted.
Throughout the day this Wednesday, the tasting panel, made up of professionals from the sector, will evaluate the salts produced in the salt flats of the Canary Islands in the categories of Flor de Sal and Sal Marina.
A total of five companies from Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura have presented ten samples in the categories of ‘Sal marine’ and ‘Flor de sal’ to compete for the Great Gold Medal, Gold Medal and Silver Medal and ‘Best Sea Salt Also Agrocanarias 2022’. For the special mention of ‘Best innovation, image and presentation 2022’, the companies have presented 24 formats.
The winners will be able to wear the accrediting label of the award obtained on their products until the celebration of the next edition. In addition, the salt that obtains the qualification of ‘Best Agrocanarias Sea Salt 2022’.
