Basta cow, Tenerife goat -from the North and South-, black pig, Presa Canario, Majorero donkey… These are some of the 17 breeds of animals of the Canary Islands determined as autochthonous. The plenary Commission of the Natural Environment of the Cabildo debates tomorrow, at the proposal of the Popular Party councilor Valentín González Évora, the institutional impulse for a declaration that guarantees the future of these species through “the breeding, knowledge and conservation” of a «cultural, genetic and ethnological heritage of the islands».
