SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 17 Oct. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Autonomous Museums Organization (OAMC), brings together scientists, researchers and experts in archeology in a conference that begins today Monday and will continue on October 19, 24 and 26 at the Museum of Nature and Archeology (MUNA) with the aim of delving into the indigenous cultures of the Archipelago.

The Island Councilor for Museums, Concepción Rivero, affirmed that it is vital that the peoples know the path of their ancestors to better understand the present and be prepared to face the challenges of the future. For this reason, she stressed the importance of this meeting, “which is an opportunity for the exchange and enrichment of the studies carried out on archeology in the different Canarian universities.”

The conference, open to the public, will address topics such as advances in palynology, responsible for studying pollen, spores and any living or fossilized microscopic organism; carpology, dedicated to the study of seeds, plants and their fruits, and anthracology, which identifies deposits with traces of coal or wood to understand the relationship between human beings and their environment.

Other areas of archeology will be added to this, such as archaeozoology, specializing in sites with animal remains; paleopathology, which delves into the traces left by different diseases through fossil remains; bioanthropology, dedicated to studying the biological evolution of the human being, and paleogenetics, one of the most recent fields that delves into the genetic information found in skeletal and fossilized remains.

The meetings will include the participation of relevant researchers, including the director of the Canarian Institute of Bioanthropology and the Archaeological Museum of Tenerife, Conrado Rodríguez-Maffiotte; the professor of the area of Genetics at the University of La Laguna (ULL) Rosa Fregel Lorenzo; the professors of the Prehistory Area of the ULL Salvador Pardo Gordo and Paloma Vidal Matutano, and the researcher in the Edaphology Area of the ULL José A. Afonso Vargas.

They will be joined by other speakers from outside the island, such as the professor of Prehistory at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Jacob B. Morales Mateos, the doctoral student at the University of Granada Celia Siverio Batista and the doctor of History Ramón Cebrián Guimerá .

Attendance at these conferences will be credited to those who request it and must have attended a minimum of 75% of the hours. To do this, they will have to register in the corresponding link on the web www.museosdetenerife.org where you will also find the detailed program of these conferences and their corresponding presentations.
