SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 14 (EUROPE PRESS) –

Severe poverty in the Canary Islands has experienced an increase of 0.1 percentage points in 2021, the equivalent of 16.8% compared to last year’s data, and affects 365,055 people living in households with incomes of less than 454 euros per month per unit of consumption, which places the Canary Islands as the region with the greatest severe poverty in the country, according to data from the European Anti-poverty Network (EAPN).

Likewise, 37.8% of the population of the Canary Islands is at risk of poverty and/or social exclusion in 2021. This represents a decrease of 1.3 points compared to last year, which, in absolute terms, withdraws 29,329 rate people. Despite this decline, the region is among the autonomous communities with the highest AROPE rate, together with Andalusia and Extremadura, and the Canary Islands exceed the national rate by 10 points, the equivalent of 36% more.

This is reflected in the XII Report ‘The State of Poverty. Monitoring of the indicators of the EU Agenda 2030. 2015-2022’, presented this Friday within the framework of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, which is commemorated on October 17.

(THERE WILL BE EXPANSION)
