SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 13 (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Governing Council authorized in its session this Thursday the Ministry of Health to allocate 14,256,810.75 euros to the contracting of the comprehensive management service and elimination of sanitary and non-sanitary waste of the care centers of the Canary Health Service .

With this new tender, the continuity of an essential service for the development of the health activity is guaranteed, given that the current contract is extended until June 6, 2023, without it being able to be extended beyond that date when its period of validity expires. Valid for 6 years, extensions included.

Contracting will be carried out through the signing of a framework agreement, through an open adjudication procedure and ordinary processing, for a period of twenty-four months, extendable for another twenty-four, according to the following lots:

– Lot 1: University Hospital of the Canary Islands (2,019,437.75 euros) and General Hospital of La Palma (1,327,816.50 euros).

– Lot 2: Dr. Negrín University Hospital of Gran Canaria (2,477,595.70 euros) and Dr. José Molina Orosa Hospital of Lanzarote (1,143,648.10 euros).

– Lot 3: Gran Canaria Island-Mother-Child University Hospital Complex (2,229,238 euros) and General Hospital of Fuerteventura (1,044,855 euros).

– Lot 4: Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria (2,521,369.40 euros), Hospital Insular Nuestra Señora de los Reyes (155,763.11 euros) and General Hospital of La Gomera (221,077.19 euros).

– Lot 5: Primary Care Management of Gran Canaria (303,815.80 euros) and Primary Care Management of Tenerife (812,194.20 euros).

Treatment and disposal

Medical waste is generated as a result of healthcare activities and, if not treated with the appropriate mechanisms, can pose risks to both people’s health and the environment.

According to Decree 104/2002, of July 26, on the Management of Sanitary Waste Management in the Canary Islands, the treatment and disposal of waste must be carried out in specific incineration, disinfection and neutralization facilities authorized by the competent body in environmental matters .

In addition to the treatment mechanisms, the facilities must have, among other requirements, cold storage chambers, systems for cleaning and disinfecting containers. These requirements make it necessary for the service to be provided by an external manager.
