Miguel Agustin Garcia Rodriguezcurrent spokesman for the Socialists in The City Council of Los Realejoswill once again lead the candidacy of the PSOE in the next municipal elections in May 2023. Their challenge is to obtain majority support from the residents of the town that allows the Socialist Party recover the Mayor’s Office that he held for 24 years, between 1979 and 2003.

The realejero PSOE bottomed out in 2011, when it was relegated to being the third political force with just 3,016 votes and three councilors. A young man Miguel Agustin Garcia, 37 years old, was the elected candidate in 2015 and his party regained its position as the second local political force thanks to the 3,592 votes and 4 councilors it obtained. In 2019 he consolidated the second position and improved the previous results with 4,285 votes and five mayors. His goal now is to continue climbing to threaten the comfortable absolute majority of the PP, which governs with 15 of the 21 councilors of the corporation.

With Manuel Dominguez fighting for the Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands, Miguel Agustín García will face the current mayor for the first time at the polls, Adolfo Gonzalez (PP)who came to office after the resignation of Domínguez, in June 2022.

In the 2015 elections he obtained four councilors and in 2019 he managed to climb to five representatives

Miguel Agustin Garcia has the endorsement of the Local Socialist Association, which highlights his “solid and coherent trajectory in defense of the interests of royal citizens throughout the last two mandates, in which he has exercised and coordinated a useful, constructive and firm opposition, which has been characterized by severely overseeing the action of the government group. And, at the same time, for putting forward proposals based on listening to the demands and needs of the residents of the municipality. More than 30 proposals to date in this mandate and more than 120 in these years ».

“Miguel Agustín García is the ideal person to occupy the Mayor’s Office of Los Realejos, due to his ability to work and listen, his knowledge of public administration, his empathy and his sincere interest in improving the lives and well-being of his neighbors”, According to the general secretary of the realejero PSOE, Melissa Garciawho also adds that “with our candidate, citizens can be sure that the municipality will be their priority and that they will not have a mayor with his head elsewhere.”
