“We do not want any more plans that remain in drawers but rather actions turned into reality in the near future”, said yesterday the Councilor for Sustainable City of the Puerto de la Cruz City Council, David Hernández, during the presentation of the development project and execution of the Plan Municipal Sustainable Mobility (PMUS) with seven specific actions.
Among them, the one of cyclist mobility stands out, which can also be carried out on a scooter, according to the mayor, and consists of using the bicycle not only as recreational transport but also in a functional way. In this sense, three routes are proposed to move within the municipality and unite the different neighborhoods: one in the urban area, another that will connect this area with the Botanical, and another with the neighborhoods of San Antonio-La Vera Nueva.
Hernández offered these details accompanied by the project coordinator and Civil Engineer Fernando Davara; the editor and engineer of Caminos, Irene Caro, and the sociologist Mesoramis Luis.
The study, which had the technical assistance of the company Tema Ingeniería, also includes six other axes: school mobility, tactical urban planning, the distribution of goods, the management of parking spaces, universal accessibility and low-lying areas. emissions. With a budget of 62,500 euros, the project is in the drafting phase and will end in November.
From that moment, the councilor hopes that the simplest actions can be implemented, that is, those that do not need a project and have a low cost in terms of resources.
As an example, he cited school mobility, which seeks to make school zones safe so that children can access schools independently. At the same time, the sidewalks will be widened so that the schools are “more friendly and other actions such as painting will be added, and benches and flower boxes will be added. In this case the cost is minimal but the involvement of the Local Police, the educational community and families is needed.
In the case of tactical urbanism, concrete actions are proposed before a final objective, such as painting a street to see how its future pedestrianization would work.
One of the most serious problems in Puerto de la Cruz is parking, which is why the possible solution is to regulate them in certain areas and with limited hours.
