SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Sep 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Minister of Social Rights of the Government of the Canary Islands, Noemí Santana, has asked this Tuesday not to fall into “alarmism” about the situation of residences for the elderly in the archipelago as a result of the extraordinary report of the Diputación del Común that reveals serious deficiencies in a sample of 25 centers.

In a tense ‘face to face’ in parliamentary committee with the spokesperson of the Mixed Group, Vidina Espino, the counselor has again pointed out that they knew the report a few days ago and that, nevertheless, the number of inspectors has increased – it has passed from two to five and it will reach 11 – and there will be more funds for social infrastructure.

Santana, who has referred to Espino as a “turncoat deputy” and has accused her of opening an “absurd and miserable” debate that answered the initial reason for the question, has advocated looking to the “future” and “fighting” what it is being done badly in the current centers.

In addition, it has valued the upcoming implementation of a ‘care plan’, after the signing of an agreement with the State, endowed with 122 million euros of which 72 million will go directly to the improvement of social and health centers and the increase in places – the Diputación del Común requests some 12,000 -.

Espino, for his part, has asked “what went wrong” so that the report from the Diputación del Común did not reach the Ministry – no two letters were returned – or the Prosecutor’s Office or debated in committee and has demanded to know if the Deficiencies detected in some residences have been corrected because the one attached to the Provincial Council and the author of the report, Milagros Fuentes, has said no.

In addition, he has criticized the “delay” in the execution of the social health infrastructure plan and requested the dismissal of the general director of Disability and Dependency, Miguel Montero, due to the poor figures.
