Local product: seal of quality

The Farmer’s Square in the municipality of San Miguel de Abona hosted this Friday the V Meeting of the Primary Sector and the Restoration, Gastrosur 2022, organized by the Circle of Entrepreneurs and Professionals of the South of Tenerife (CEST)with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Canary Islands Government and the Cabildo de Tenerife as co-organizers. The objective of this edition focused on highlighting the importance of water as a natural resource for the agricultural sector and exploring keys for its modernization, such as digitization, crop control or commercial strategy.

The event fulfilled its main purpose, that of bringing together the primary sector and the gastronomy and tourism business community to promote local products, as a guarantee of quality, and foster trade relations between these different economic actors in the region.

During the inauguration, the president of the CEST, Roberto Ucelay, underlined the importance of publicizing the quality of Tenerife products, promoting their consumption among the island society. By the way, Ucelay highlighted the importance of this event “because it brings together the different economic sectors, with an eye toward diversification and the modernization of all of them.” The president added that “optimizing processes is born, on many occasions, from the collaboration between the different economic agents, between companies, and this space is born from this idea: collaborate to grow”.

Roberto Ucelay, president of the CEST: “This event brings together the different sectors”

The Deputy Minister for the Primary Sector of the Government of the Canary Islands, Álvaro de la Bárcena, also spoke at the inauguration, encouraging restaurateurs and hoteliers to continue betting on Canarian products and to get involved with the agricultural sector. For his part, the mayor of San Miguel de Abona, Arturo González, stressed the importance of “the countryside getting closer, more and more, to the tourism sector, so that they can walk hand in hand.” From the Cabildo de Tenerife, the Councilor for Municipal Cooperation, Zebenzuí Chinea, valued the choice of this year’s theme, around water, and explained that guaranteeing this resource in the region is a priority.

The program included a market for agricultural products from kilometer zero, with several restaurant and hotel establishments offering a sample of their gastronomic offerings.

San Miguel is savored

San Miguel wants to continue publicizing the work of the municipality’s kitchens, as well as the professionals behind each of the exceptional dishes served daily. For this reason, a new edition of Saborea San Miguel returns.

From October 14 to November 4, the XI Ruta de la Tapa will be held, which in this edition has 15 participants distributed throughout the southern municipality, places that offer a tour of the local gastronomy, from the most traditional dishes to fusion with other gastronomic cultures. There will also be a rich program of activities
