With the aim of highlighting the importance of water as a natural resource for the agricultural sector and exploring key aspects for its modernization, such as digitization, crop control or commercial strategy, San Miguel de Abona yesterday hosted the V Encuentro of the Primary Sector and the Restoration, Gastrosur 2022. The event was organized by the Circle of Entrepreneurs and Professionals of the South of Tenerife (CEST), with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Canary Islands Government and the Cabildo of Tenerife.

The basis of Gastrosur is to bring together the primary sector and the restaurant and tourism business community to promote local products, as a guarantee of quality, and foster commercial relations between these economic actors in the region. All this thanks to the sponsorship of the Government of the Canary Islands, Promotur and the React-EU Fund.

The program included a zero kilometer market for agricultural products, in which more than 25 producers from the region participated. In addition, several restaurant and hotel establishments provided a sample of their gastronomic offerings with local products as the basis of their preparations and with quality as the main value.

Roberto Ucelay, president of the CEST, highlighted the importance of this event “because it brings together the different economic sectors, with an eye toward diversification and the modernization of all of them.” A way of “facing challenges better” that “will allow us to adapt to the needs of the market and, more importantly, of consumers,” he pointed out.

The Deputy Minister for the Primary Sector of the Government of the Canary Islands, Álvaro de la Bárcena, assured that Gastrosur will consolidate and position itself at a regional level as “one of the most important events in the Archipelago. They have succeeded.” Arturo González, the host mayor, called on the sectors to “walk hand in hand” and Zebenzuí Chinea, island councilor, valued the choice of this year’s theme: water.
