The council drives the improvement of public services to the citizen in the municipalities of Tenerife with less than 20,000 inhabitants –17 of the 31, just over 50%-. He does so through the innovation tool that the four-year agreement with the Novagob Foundation represents, an entity specialized in “good governance”. The objective of the signed agreement is to offer means to these administrations to be able to give a quick and effective response to the demands of their neighbors.
The Second Vice President and Minister of the Presidency, Finance and Modernization, Berta Pérez, inaugurated in this context the First Meeting of Public Innovation Laboratories. More than 150 people and employees from different administrations shared challenges and innovative ideas.
Pérez highlighted the importance of incorporating innovation in the public sector and valued the work carried out by the island government. Together with the minister, the president of the Canarian Federation of Municipalities (FECAM), Mari Brito, and the insular director of Modernization, Daniel González, also presented this forum.
Berta Pérez highlighted the need to propose projects that help citizens such as those developed by the Cabildo, through the Public Innovation Laboratory of Tenerife, in collaboration with the Fundación University of La Laguna (ULL). The minister valued the creation of a network, initially made up of six of them, promoted by the Cabildos of Tenerife, La Palma and Gran Canaria, Turismo de Tenerife, Canary Islands Government and the University of La Laguna (ULL).
Pérez detailed participatory and “tangible” projects with a focus on these small municipalities. Among them, making the communication provided to citizens more accessible with clear and simple language; promote the quality of food in the centers of the Institute of Social and Socio-Sanitary Care of Tenerife (IASS) or design a methodology, pioneer in Spain, that facilitates the process of transformation and modernization for municipalities. He highlights this guide to help anyone, especially those with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants, modernize their services.
Communication channels
The Cabildo works to, through new technologies, facilitate access to the electronic office and implement a multi-channel, comprehensive and quality model that allows individualized attention to be provided. Exploring new virtual communication systems with victims and survivors of gender-based violence is another of the marked challenges for disseminating available resources.
Within the framework of the conference, the Public Innovation and Good Practices awards were presented to recognize the effort in innovation of the employees of the Cabildo, the dependent public sector and the municipalities.
