This year, after the break due to the global pandemic, Young Art on the Street is being recovered in the streets of the historic center of La Orotava, an activity in which more than 500 young artists will participate.

And, as is tradition, it will be held again on a Sunday, specifically, on October 16, between 10:00 and 15:00, between the Town Hall area, Carrera Escultor Estévez street, the Bridge area, Canarias Avenue and the Constitution Plaza.

The event was presented yesterday by the mayor, Francisco Linares, and the delegate councilor of the area, Darío Afonso, who were accompanied by the author of the poster for this twenty-third edition, Gisela Hernández Estévez.

The president valued the success of each edition and that it has been consolidated for more than two decades. In this sense, he pointed out that it was a pioneering initiative in the Canary Islands that many municipalities followed in a similar way, but in the Villa it has maintained its initial philosophy such as that young people have a scenic space for one day in which to show their art, their work and be the true protagonists. “It is a family fair to enjoy a different Sunday in the Villa”, he pointed out.

He also highlighted the importance that the areas of Youth, Education, Culture and Sports have for the City Council, in which some five million euros from the municipal coffers are invested annually.

For his part, Darío Afonso explained that the event will feature musical, dance, theater, storytelling, statuary, mime and magic performances, as well as various workshops such as virtual reality, body percussion, painting, crafts, modeling, balloon twisting or break dance.

There will also be painting and photography exhibitions, on-site graffiti, outdoor painting and dance competitions, cockfights and inclusive theater. Added to all this are 35 illustrators who will have their own space to show and sell their works and the different educational centers of the municipality participate by making a work that will be exhibited at the fair.
