Agustina Beltrán wanted to make it clear yesterday, on Onda Tenerife, that “I will once again be the PSOE candidate for the Mayor’s Office of Vilaflor de Chasna”, contrary to what could be implied after a press release from the party in which they quoted the mayors running for re-election and his name did not appear. “It was a press error that has now been corrected,” commented the current councilor, thus dispelling any doubts about her intention to repeat in office, “if the citizens of Vilaflor so decide on May 28.”

He also made it clear that he has the endorsement of the party and that he ruled out that Manuel Fumero, who was the socialist mayor of the municipality before his arrival, wants to present himself again to municipal elections.

Fumero, after winning a court ruling calling for his disqualification from public office, is today Deputy Secretary of Organization of the regional executive of the PSOE.

Agustina Beltrán, yes, acknowledged that “when I won the last elections, it is true that I said that I did not want to be in office for more than eight years, but this mandate, due to the two years of pandemic, many projects have remained unfinished and my I want to continue working on them, like that interpretative center of Brother Pedro and then leave politics”.

The mayor of the least populated municipality of Tenerife (around 1,800 inhabitants) recognized that “doing politics in a small town is not easy”, echoing the phrase “small town, big hell”, reporting that “it is not easy to make a electoral list with 12 people, because hardly anyone wants to dedicate themselves to it, politics is quite denigrated, among other reasons because for any little thing you can end up in court; Politics today is a risky profession”, stated Agustina Beltrán emphatically.

This, surely, will have the Canary Coalition as its only adversary, because “other parties have tried, but it is difficult, I repeat, to get people to stand for election, and even more so when the salaries are not attractive either,” says someone who, he assures, earns less than what he received in his previous job, and he does so, moreover, “without receiving allowances. I pay for my breakfasts and many times I invite”.

Agustina Beltrán governs Vilaflor with five councilors, for four from the Canarian Coalition, although she considers it important to “get 154 more votes in a census of 900 voters.”
