Migdalia Machín: «Lanzarote cannot be governed from Tenerife»

«The political course starts without an ordinary plenary session in September and we are about to end the year and there are no budgets. The Cabildo has become the most opaque institution in all of the Canary Islands,” says Migdalia Machín (CC) to lament the dedication to the regional Parliament of the president of the Cabildo Dolores Corujo (PSOE).

The island secretary of the Canarian Coalition in Lanzarote, Migdalia Machín, considers that the attitude of Dolores Corujo, prioritizing her status as a parliamentarian over that of president of the Island Council throughout the current mandate, denotes irresponsibility and a total lack of respect towards citizens of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.

“Lanzarote cannot be governed from Tenerife, a president must be clear about her priorities,” says the nationalist leader, according to statements released by the CC cabinet.

“We are tired of denouncing the teasing that the continuous cancellation of plenary sessions entails. We have already had at least a dozen without being held and many others whose date is postponed again and again, as is the case of September, convened for the 30th and, like almost all, postponed, “stresses Machín.

The nationalist leader accuses Corujo of having forgotten what the main responsibility of a president is and anticipates that the Nationalist Group in the Cabildo will request a report from the Secretariat and, based on it, the measures deemed appropriate will be taken.

“Without budgets, the needs of the island or the citizens cannot be met, without plenary sessions decisions cannot be made. It is supposed to be the institution’s most important representative body, but, given the behavior of Corujo and the PSOE, we can safely say that we know of no precedent for such an obstruction of democratic activity throughout the archipelago. The Cabildo has become the most opaque institution in all of the Canary Islands,” said Machín.
