Medano celebrated the XV Barquera Pilgrimage, within the framework of the festivities in honor of Our Lady of Mercedes de Rojas, and which had to be postponed the previous weekend due to the situation of maximum alert due to the passage of the Hermine subtropical storm. A large audience responded and attended the event on the central beach of the coastal area of Passion fruit to participate in the celebration.
The acts of the Pilgrimage Barquera began at 1:00 p.m., once the mass was over, where a solidarity offering was made to the Virgin, which allowed the collection of a significant amount of basic products that will be distributed in the coming days by Cáritas Diocesanas among the families neediest in the area.
Dancers from El Pinar (El Hierro), the band from Agaete (Gran Canaria) and various folk groups joined the celebration. At the end, the boat and a walk through the bay of the coastal nucleus took place, enlivened by the voices of the singers Juan Antonio ‘El Charro’ and Jessica Dorta.
The Sunday session concluded with a lively festival enlivened by the Kimbara group and the Wamampy, Malibú Band and Tropin orchestras.
On Saturday, numerous faithful attended the mass and the procession, with the accompaniment of the José Reyes Martín Cultural Society music band. At night, the protagonism was for the fireworks, which lit up the roof of El Médano and for a festival that brought together a large audience and that featured performances by the Acapulco, Atlantic and Generasión orchestras.
