SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 30 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Department of Waste and Classified Activities of the Cabildo de La Palma has removed and managed 207.4 tons of waste from the greenhouses that were affected by the volcanic eruption in the Aridane Valley and 270 cubic meters of debris from these agricultural facilities.

The councilor responsible for the area, Nieves Rosa Arroyo, stressed that the Cabildo has been at the service of citizens since the volcanic crisis began on all fronts of the emergency and, in this case, cooperating with the agricultural sector in the Aridane Valley. which has been seriously affected by the action of the lava flows, in the management of waste.

Arroyo wanted to remember that a significant number of agricultural farms dedicated to the cultivation of bananas suffered the destruction of greenhouses when their structure collapsed due to the weight of the ash. Hence, in January 2022, a service for the collection, transport and management of waste from these agricultural facilities consisting of mesh, plastic film, polyethylene irrigation pipes, metal pipes, wire and demolition debris was launched.

The service consisted of the placement of 4 containers or boxes with a capacity of 30 m3 in the southern area of Puerto Naos, with an established schedule and surveillance to control the entrances and the correct distribution of the waste.

The containers filled with film, mesh and polyethylene pipes are transported to the facilities of the authorized manager on the Island for treatment (pressing) and transport to final treatment on the Peninsula.

In total, 77.24 tons of mesh, 6.2 tons of greenhouse film, about 4 tons of polyethylene pipe and more than 270 cubic meters of debris have been removed, to which must be added the removal of more than 120 tons of wire.

Nieves Rosa Arroyo pointed out that the Cabildo plans to maintain this service until the end of this year, given the existing demand.
