Canary Islands Government and Cabildo condition the future of Fonsalía to a macro-study

This approach is in tune with what was expressed by the mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena. “We have a congestion problem, which is not new, and action is required now to respond to the two million people who pass through these facilities throughout the year,” he said. The solutions must be “bankable, sustainable and fast”, to which he will contribute in his capacity as Vice President of the Government and as head of the Canarian Treasury.

Rodríguez was insistent on express their rejection of the Port of Fonsalía, “An operation that has paralyzed the operational responses that Los Cristianos needs.” At this point, he said he was glad that “political forces and leaders who have fought for the Fonsalía solution, today recognize that this is not going to come out,” thus aligning himself with “the position of the mayor and with which some of us have defined this summer.” .

The vice president advocated for seek political, social and citizen consensus around this proposal to improve Los Cristianos so that the response is as fast and efficient as possible. Also to prop up Arona as head of the region.

The key is Chayofita

Mena underlined the importance of modernizing the port-city network and the operation of the installation and insisted on burying Chayofita avenue from the port environment to the El Mojón partial plan, saving the roundabout that begins at Juan Carlos I avenue. He assured that this solution would have an approximate cost of 40 million euros , an amount much less than the 200 million required to build the Port of Fonsalía.

The presence of Román Rodríguez yesterday in Arona had an institutional character. During the same committed to the construction of a new health center in Las Galletas (It could be in the old BBVA building), to replace the “obsolete” facilities in use. They reminded him of 30 years ago, he clarified. He also announced that he will speed up the process to build the Los Cristianos health center on land that the Arona City Council gave to do so 13 years ago. It is about the Canary Islands Health Service putting out to tender the new project this year.

Fepeco regrets NC’s veto to the Island

Óscar Izquierdo, president of the provincial construction employers’ association, assures that he is not surprised that Román Rodríguez and his political party, Nueva Canarias, «are opposed to the Port of Fonsalía, because it is part of its disruptive strategy to stop or slow down economic growth and social development of our Island ». In his opinion, “they are not interested in the potentiality and leadership that it may have in the future, when it enjoys the appropriate road and airport infrastructures and with them Tenerife can remain in the regional leadership, which at the moment they are trying to veto it.” Izquierdo asks the vice president of the Canarian Government to learn from the president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, and the regional councilor for Public Works, Sebastián Franquis, “who have put sanity, good sense, high-mindedness and public service above demagoguery, electoralism and populism”.

To the «totalitarian censors» who describe Fepeco as «insularists», he reminds them that «there is an insularism, disguised as regionalism, of which the leader of Nueva Canarias is one of its highest representatives». Along these lines, he attributes to Rodríguez that while he speaks of “Canarism”, he tries to “perpetuate the inter-island imbalance.” When saying that the Port of Fonsalía is «very reviewable», adducing environmental, cost, time and opportunity reasons «it is portrayed in its denialist positions against our Island, because its only objective is to magnify Gran Canaria, where the political party that represents has its fishing ground for votes, which are systematically denied in Tenerife, where its representation is testimonial.

Óscar Izquierdo denies the rejection of citizenship that Román Rodríguez speaks of. He assures that «the vast majority of Tenerife society, from El Hierro, La Gomera and La Palma, want the Port of Fonsalía. Only an ideological minority, representative of the totalitarian single thought, made up and remotely controlled by active officials, on leave of absence or retired, are those who are opposed.

Nueva Canarias flirts with Mena

The president of Nueva Canarias (NC), Román Rodríguez, has proposed to the mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena, his incorporation into the progressive Canarian formation, as defined. It is one more movement in NC’s expansion policy in Tenerife, an island in which its institutional representation is residual. This proposal was not part of yesterday’s institutional visit to the municipality in his capacity as vice president of the Canary Islands Government. For now, Mena chooses to remain silent in the face of the imminence of the trial that faces him against the PSOE, after the precautionary suspension of his expulsion from the party for which he obtained the absolute majority in 2019. That hearing will take place next Tuesday.
