The Municipal Emergency Plan of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has carried out a total of 477 services over the last two days to deal with the incidents caused by the storm ‘Hermine’ in the municipality.
The events, which have been minor, have been mainly related to power outages and floods, as reported by the City Council in a statement.
By types, the emergency services have carried out 178 attentions related to floods and water incidents; 98 with lighting; 54 with buildings due to falling debris; 30 interventions related to trees and branches; 18 with roads; 8 with traffic lights and 8 with walls.
The work carried out by the municipal services has made it possible to keep all roads open, except for access to El Confital, which remains closed, and access to Avenida Luis Benítez Inglott from Avenida de Ansite and Escaleritas.
Since this Sunday night, the work has focused on recovering normality and not acting on incidents in washing down, removal of rubble and against accumulation of water.
The rains have been more intense than expected, being one of the largest in the historical series of the city, and the preventive device put in place the days before the arrival of the meteorological phenomenon, together with the collaboration of citizens, has made it easier for the temporary has not caused serious damage or personal injury.
Currently, the Consistory is carrying out, through the different municipal services, tasks so that the city recovers, with all the guarantees, its daily life after the effects of the storm.
Lastly, regarding Social Services, the City Council has offered accommodation to a total of 77 homeless people or in an emergency situation in the Jesús Telo pavilion, which was enabled since the maximum alert was decreed to guarantee the safety of the entire population, especially the most vulnerable.
