SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 23 Sep. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The National Hurricane Center in Miami already forecasts an 80% probability of the formation of a tropical cyclone between the islands of Cape Verde and the coast of Africa and has been baptized as ‘Ten’ since it is the tenth tropical depression that is born this year in the Atlantic Ocean.

According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the depression is moving north at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour but “will not impact” the Canary Islands, although it will come close enough to leave widespread, intense and persistent rainfall, accompanied by storms throughout the weekend and next Monday.

Already this Saturday, starting at noon, rains of up to 60 liters per square meter accumulated in 12 hours are expected in several municipalities of the western islands.

This episode will intensify on Sunday with very heavy rains of up to 30 liters per square meter in one hour and 100 liters in 12 hours, with the exception of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, where about 40 liters are expected in 12 hours.

In total, the Aemet sees it likely that in some points of the western islands and Gran Canaria up to 150 liters per square meter will be registered in 12 hours.

Although no windstorm or maritime storm is expected, strong or very strong gusts of southern component may occur in the western islands as well as windy seas with waves up to two meters high.
