The Cabildo of Tenerife integrates the urban transport network of Candelaria, known as ‘taxi on demand’, in the insular transport network.
With this incorporation, users of the urban transport network of that municipality will be able to use, as up to now, the purse card in the urban network, and also benefit from discounts when transferring to other island lines or use monthly passes, such as the young or resident, of which until now they could not make use of.
The insular councilor of Mobility and president of Titsa, Enrique Arriaga, explains in a note that “this incorporation will mean for the residents of Candelaria, especially in the midlands area, having greater connectivity by being able to use all the tickets of the island transport network and transship with the Titsa network.”
In addition, he points out that “the Cabildo is working on improving the public transport service throughout the island so that users make use of it and with the same conditions live where they live, whether in the metropolitan area or in rural areas.”
The island councilor adds that “providing a public transport service with quality, connectivity and frequency is the best alternative to improve mobility on the island.”
For this reason, he continues, “in the last two years we have opted to restructure the services taking into account the needs raised from each of the 31 municipalities of Tenerife”.
The mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito, points out in a note that this restructuring is intended to “respond to the mobility of the municipality’s citizens, especially the residents of the midlands, who will see increased frequencies of passage and expansion from service to weekends “.
Brito points out that, with these novelties, the service, which until now has been financed one hundred percent by the town hall, will be co-financed by the Cabildo de Tenerife thanks to the launch of Titsa’s money system, and will be provided with the 365 days a year.
It also highlights that Candelaria urban transport users will be able to enjoy the voucher system with the same advantages as those of Titsa.
“We are very happy with this novelty, for which we have been working for a long time. Thanks to the goodwill and coordination between administrations and the impulse these months, Candelaria now has a noticeable improvement in this service, whose demand has increased in recent years, so it is essential for our neighbors, “he stresses.
The insular director of Mobility, José Alberto León, indicates that “it is fair that the residents of Candelaria have the same treatment, benefits and services as any other inhabitant of the island.”
BUDGET OF 230,000 EUROS
Along these lines, he adds that despite the fact that the regular passenger policy is not mandatory for municipalities with less than 50,000 inhabitants, “Candelaria has had one for 12 years, and is an example for the rest who lack it and from the Cabildo invites them to join. ”
For his part, Jorge Baute, Councilor for Transport of the Candelaria City Council, points out that the urban transport of Candelaria has an annual investment of 153,000 euros, which with these new features will increase by more than 85,000 euros, which will mean more than 230,000 euros year.
All the changes have been made in coordination with the Mobility Area of the Cabildo de Tenerife with the aim of improving the connectivity of the residents after the restructuring of Titsa.
Thus, from this Monday, the residents of Candelaria will be able to use all the transport tickets in the urban network, since the incorporation of the municipality to the island network entails technical modifications of the reading devices that the urban lines already have.
