After three years, the Neighbor’s Day returns to the streets of Ofra. It will do so this Friday and Saturday with multiple activities around the Príncipes de España avenue and the Juan XXIII sports center. But it is not the only activity that can be enjoyed this weekend in Santa Cruz, because in the Southwest District, the first edition of the district’s festivities is kicking off, an initiative that aims to offer residents the opportunity to share in the surroundings of the Parque de La Estrella, with various activities such as concerts and with a festival included, and which in this case will start this Thursday.

Both initiatives were presented yesterday by the mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, and councilors Gladis de León (responsible for the ofra district-South Coast) and Javier Rivero (Southwest). Bermúdez pointed out that “the Santa Cruz City Council maintains its roadmap announced in April, in the presentation of Santa Cruz: Puro Corazón, and continues to comply with the more than 200 announced activities that also reach the neighborhoods.”

De León explained that the Day of the Neighbor will be held on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, in three places, “on the esplanade of the Los Príncipes Shopping Center, Los Príncipes Avenue and the Juan XXIII sports center, with a recreational-children’s area, artistic area with a stage, gastronomy area, the traditional street market on the avenue and sports in Juan XXIII”.
For his part, Rivero explained that “as a consequence of the pandemic there are few forecasts that the neighborhoods will celebrate their patron saint festivities, so from the district we have proposed to celebrate, from Thursday to Sunday, a large neighborhood meeting called Fiestas del Southwest, in the central square of the Parque de La Estrella, with folk music, humor, festivals and activities for the whole family”.

Ofra celebrates Neighbor’s Day

Specifically, through the Ofra-Costa Sur district, this coming Friday and Saturday, the 23rd and 24th, the Neighbor’s Day is celebrated, a traditional initiative that celebrates its eighth edition after two years without being able to carry it out due to the pandemic. , which will feature more than thirty sports, cultural, children’s and leisure activities.

This event, which has the support of the participating groups, neighbours, local entities and merchants, aims to revitalize the Ofra shopping area, while offering leisure sessions that will serve to promote sport, publicize the talents held by the district, as well as the work carried out by the members of the neighborhood associations, through their participation in the workshops.

The district councilor, Gladis de León, points out the economic importance of this revitalization “for the commercial fabric of our District and that is why we will offer a conference with a multitude of events and an extensive program of cultural, children’s and leisure activities that they can enjoy residents of all ages from Santa Cruz de Tenerife and especially from the Ofra-Costa Sur District. We want to present an image of our District that is dynamic, attractive, commercial and, above all, participatory”, she concludes.

On Friday, the 23rd, on the esplanade of the Los Príncipes Shopping Center, from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., leisure and children’s activities, together with music, will be the main protagonists of the day. Bouncy castles, slides, trampolines and a toy library will delight the little ones in the house.

On the same day, music and humor will have their moment with the performance, starting at 6:00 p.m., with the performance of three artists from Ofra: Miller Brown, Lil Épico and El Carmona; at 7:30 p.m., it will be the turn of one of the great Canarian stand-up singers, Omayra Cazorla, and the day will end with a concert by Soul Sanet, at 8:30 p.m., whose discography is known to all thanks to songs like “Call me by my name” or “3,718”.

One of the main activities on Saturday will be Ofra Emprende, where 27 tents located on the central promenade of Príncipes de España avenue will be dedicated to commerce and the collaborating entities of the district. From 10:00 a.m. the nearby shops will be the protagonist and will be enlivened by folk groups and batukadas.

A climbing wall that ends in a large zip line along with bouncy castles, slides, trampolines and a children’s playroom complete the children’s activities, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., on the esplanade attached to the Los Príncipes Shopping Center.

That same day on the esplanade of the Los Príncipes Shopping Center, from 10:00 a.m., neighbors, together with neighborhood groups from the district, will be installed in a giant tent where they will exhibit a wide range of items in Ofra Saldos.
