The La Guancha City Council just announced this Monday, September 13, 2021 a new restriction on drinking water consumption after the increase in fluoride levels due to a cut in the electricity supply to the Salobres Water Desalination Station (EDAS) Cross of the Tarifes, where all the water supplied to the municipality is treated. The measure affects practically half of the 5,540 inhabitants of the town.
The mayor of La Guancha, Antonio Hernandez (PP), decreed the restriction on consumption according to the guidelines set by the General Directorate of Public Health, which on Monday morning ordered that the water from the public network be used for drinking, cooking or preparing food in practically half of the town.
As reported by the Consistory, “the measure affects almost half of the local population, specifically ten nuclei on the northwest side of the town: The Convent, Las Montañetas, Las Crucitas, Llano de Méndez, Las Sorribas, Las Longueras, Las Cucharas, Hoya de Pablos, Santo Domingo and El Pinalete“.
The ban on using water for drinking or cooking affects ten towns where half of the local population resides
This new temporary restriction is due to a failure suffered days ago in the electricity supply of the Cruz de los Tarifes EDAS, leaving it blocked for a few hours. This event affected the Montefrío and El Pinalete deposits, with an extreme drop in their treated water levels. The extraordinary injection of raw water to avoid the general interruption of the service caused a slight increase in fluoride levels (up to 4.2 and 4.3 milligrams per liter). It is expected that over the next few days, and after the relevant control samples, the optimal levels of the affected parameter will be recovered and, with this, the restriction in force will be suspended. The technicians expect the problem to be resolved within two weeks.
The Guanchero Consistory Remember that the prohibition on the consumption of water for children under 8 years of age has been active throughout the town for seven months. The municipality already suffered a total restriction between the end of February and the beginning of March 2021.
