SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 18 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Secretary for Constitutional Reform and New Rights of the PSOE and Minister of the Presidency, Relations with the Courts and Democratic Memory, Félix Bolaños, assured this afternoon, from Santa Cruz de La Palma, that “the lights have gone out and the Government has not La Palma is forgotten and it will not be forgotten until the last palm tree rebuilds his life project”. And he added that 80% of the 600 million euros that the Government allocated to alleviate the effects of the volcano have already been mobilized.
“When they come badly, there is a progressive government that is there to help the people,” remarked Bolaños, who recalled that the ministers have visited La Palma 50 times and the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, has traveled a dozen times to the island. He added that it is good for the Canary Islands that there is a socialist president in the country “as opposed to a Popular Party with leaders like Casado, who proposed lowering VAT or a Feijóo who recommends using a means of transport between the islands that disappeared years ago ” .
“We defend the policy that we make from the Government and in La Palma the public is valued when it is most needed because neoliberalism, when they are badly given, is neither there nor is it expected.” It is “social democracy” that “protects and defends the people”, with “people-centered policies” and “advancing rights”, argued the socialist leader.
“And the Spaniards see it every week in the votes in Congress or in the decisions adopted by the European Union. The PP voted in Spain against the tax on energy companies and in Europe it votes in favor and Feijóo does not change his rictus” and now it is the European PP “that asks for the Iberian Exception to be applied to all of Europe when Feijóo called it an Iberian scam,” said Bolaños.
“What an opportunity Feijóo had to enjoy the silence and not once again clearly show his ignorance of the issues!” Bolaños launched, lamenting Feijóo’s opportunity “to have been silent at that time because what we are doing from the Government of Spain is to benefit the entire population with the Iberian Exception mechanism”.
“SCIENCE SAVED OUR LIVES”
The Secretary of Science, Innovation and Universities of the PSOE and Minister of Science and Innovation, Diana Morant, has also had criticism of the Popular Party: “In La Palma we verified that life has been able to cope with destruction.” Morant has highlighted the role of science: “It saved our lives in the pandemic, with the vaccines, it put us on the right path to save people’s lives with the volcano, or to fight the fires.”
“To deny the science, as the extreme right and the right do, is to deny the reality of climate change.” Faced with “denialism of the right, the Government and the PSOE go hand in hand with science.” “Socialists provide solutions to problems” while “the solutions of the right continue to harm the middle and working classes to defend the powerful,” added the socialist leader.
Also participating in the meeting with militants was the Secretary General of the Canary Socialists and President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, who stressed that “the first triumph” in the face of the volcano’s eruption was “that there were no deaths” and ensured that the arrival of the 600 million to La Palma have achieved that there are 2,100 fewer unemployed on the island than a year ago.
