SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 16 Sep. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The President of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, assessed this Friday, together with the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands, Alicia Vanoostende, the investment of more than 49 million euros to carry out irrigation works on the islands, a public action that is developed in coordination with the island councils, the irrigation communities and the State Society of Agricultural Infrastructures (Seiasa).

Torres and Vanoostende have finalized the agreement that will be signed next week between the Seiasa entity, the island councils and the irrigation communities for the execution of five new irrigation works declared of general interest that will be undertaken in Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Tenerife and La Palm.

The president of the Executive of the Canary Islands indicated with respect to this public action that from the autonomous Government they have defended before the firm Seiasa the realization of these works, “which will improve the efficiency and sustainability of the irrigation networks of the islands”.

Torres highlighted the importance of modernizing irrigation systems and pipes, as well as the firm commitment to the use of reclaimed water and clean energy by the Government of the Canary Islands.

The agreement contemplates the creation of new irrigation infrastructure in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, plans highly demanded by farmers that consist of the desalination and pumping of water with alternative energies.

Specifically, on the island of Majorera, the irrigation modernization and improvement project will be carried out in the south central area, in the municipalities of Tuineje and Pájara, while in Lanzarote the irrigation modernization and improvement project will be carried out in the municipalities of Tinajo and Teguise.

In Tenerife, the modernization and improvement projects, phase one and two, will be carried out in the municipalities of Adeje, Guía de Isora and Santiago del Teide, plus phase three of the Las Charquetas regulating pond, in Guía de Isora.

In La Palma, it is the ninth offprint of the project for the modernization and improvement of the San Miguel network in Breña Alta, Breña Baja, Mazo and Fuencaliente.

Phase one (signed in September 2021) and phase two, that of this agreement and which includes the five works outlined, mean for the archipelago the execution of ten important irrigation projects charged to the funds of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience of the Government of Spain, whose total amount amounts to 68 million euros.
