SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 16 Sep. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The public aid distributed in La Palma since the volcanic eruption began already adds up to a total of 565.5 million euros, according to the latest updated report from the Government of the Canary Islands made public this Friday.

Thus, of the total number of applications received in the Single Registry (7,860), 7,091 (90.2%) have been initiated, with 6,844 files already signed and 247 in process.

In housing and accommodation items for people affected by the eruption, 257.2 million have been mobilized, including 186.2 million paid by the Consortium to cover the damage to a total of 6,883 homes; 26.63 million for compensation –at a rate of 60,000 euros per house– and 11.86 million to acquire 174 homes in Breña Baja, El Paso, Tazacorte, Fuencaliente and Los Llanos.

For social emergency and employment support, public institutions have invested 88.4 million, of which 60.9 million cover the special employment plan for the island, which has generated more than 3,500 jobs.

In addition, the Cabildo and the three municipalities affected by the eruption — Los Llanos de Aridane, El Paso and Tazacorte — have distributed up to 18.2 million of money obtained from donations from companies and individuals.

Regarding the aid received by companies, the self-employed and productive sectors, the report quantifies it at just over 80 million, including 14.6 million for the banana subsector, 10.8 million in direct aid for more than 500 companies and freelancers or 9.4 million from the tourism recovery plan ‘La Palma is reborn’.

Likewise, 139.1 million have been allocated to various chapters such as 11 million to guarantee agricultural irrigation water, nine million for the installation of emergency treatment plants or 38 million for the new coastal highway that connects Tazacorte with Puerto Naos.
